Ford Focus

Ford Focus

The Ford Focus is a compact car introduced to North America in 1999 for model year 2000, now in its second generation. The North American models were initially co-developed with the international Focus which debuted at the 1998 Paris Motor Show and were eventually manufactured and sold worldwide, including South America, Africa, Australia, and Asia.
Ford Focus

First generation North American Focus models paralleled the international Focus using the C170 platform for sedan, hatchback (3 and 5-door), and wagon configurations – with an intermediate facelift for the 2005 model year.
Where second generation North American Focus models continue with the C170 platform beginning with model year 2008 – in sedan and coupe configurations – the international Focus introduced in 2005 employs the newer C1 platform for sedan, hatchback (3 and 5-door), and wagon configurations.

Ford Focus

Focus production in North America had been shared between Wayne Stamping & Assembly in Wayne, Michigan (sedans and wagons) and Hermosillo Stamping & Assembly in Hermosillo, Mexico (hatchback models) before consolidation of all production at Wayne Assembly in 2006.
The Focus replaced the Ford Escort/Mercury Tracer and Ford Contour/Mercury Mystique[citation needed] in North America and won North American Car of the Year award for 2000 (the Ford Focus (international) won European Car of the Year in 1999).

Ford Focus 2009
Together with their global siblings, Focus models rank as the 40th bestselling automotive nameplate worldwide[citation needed], with over 5 million sold. While U.S. sales of the Focus peaked in 2000 at 286,000 vehicles, the Wall Street Journal reported in May, 2009 an estimate that the Ford Focus lost as much as $1 billion a year.
Ford Focus
Ford began marketing the Focus in October 1999 for model year 2000 initially as 3-door hatchback, 4-door sedan and 5-door wagon — with a 5-door hatchback debuting for model year 2002 model at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto. The Focus became one of the ten best selling cars in America shortly after its introduction.
Ford Focus ST

Focus models had been designed under the directorship of Richard Parry-Jones and were noted at introduction for their styling, class-leading rear suspension and tall interior packaging  — as well as a stiff and light body structure, low-friction steering and suspension, and extensive safety and convenience features including driver and passenger airbags, available head-and-chest side air bags, rear ISOFIX child-safety seat attachments, safety belt system with pre-tensioners and load-limiting retractors, battery saver to automatically switch off lights after 10 minutes, interior theater dimming, and flip-up/flat-folding rear seat cushions.

Ford Focus 2010

The Focus' styling, often noted as polarizing, was marketed by Ford as New Edge design. The design language had been overseen by Jack Telnack and Claude Lobo and executed by Australian designer, John Doughty.

In 2000, Karl Brauer, writing for Edmunds.com described the styling: "While ergonomically sound, the Focus' interior, like its exterior, displays much of Ford's New Edge philosophy that had editors split on loving or hating it." Sherri Koucky, writing for MachineDesign.com said the styling "mixes round shapes with funky geometric ones and adds sharp angles, somehow making them all work together."

Ford Focus 2012

For the 2012 model year, Ford decided to reunite both international and North American models by releasing the international Mk3 worldwide. The current North American version was thus discontinued, and the new model was launched simultaneously in North America and Europe in early 2011, both having started production late in 2010.

2012 Ford Ranger

As you may know already, Ford introduced the all-new 2012 Ranger at this year’s Australian Motor Show in Sydney, but what you didn’t know is that the manufacturer plans to expend the platform used by the vehicle, from pickup-only at launch to an SUV variant.

The new SUV is expected in late 2012 at the earliest, and according to our sources.

For those who don’t know, the new Ford Ranger was developed in collaboration with Mazda (the Mazda BT50 is actually a redesigned Ford Ranger), which means that the Japanese manufacturer could also consider a new SUV based on the BT50.

Ford F350

The F-Series is a series of full-size pickup trucks from Ford Motor Company sold for over six decades. The most popular variant of the F-Series is the F-150. It was the best-selling vehicle in the United States for 24 years and has been the best-selling truck for 34 years,[1] though this does not include combined sales of GM pickup trucks.[2] In the tenth generation of the F-series, the F-250 and F-350 changed body style in 1998 and joined the Super Duty series.

Ford F350
The new F-150 earned the North American Truck of the Year award for 2004 and was Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year for 2004. It also beat the three-time winning Chevrolet Silverado for Car and Driver magazine's Best Pickup Truck for 2004 and 2005. Additionally, over 939,000 F-Series trucks were sold in 2005, a single-year sales record for trucks.[citation needed]

As a popular fleet vehicle, this generation of the F-Series has garnered a number of awards from fleet management professionals. The 2006 F-150 was named Fleet Truck of the Year by Automotive Fleet and Business Fleet magazines, and the 2007 models of the F-150, F-250 and F-350 were chosen Best Fleet Value vehicles in their respective categories by automotive data-analysis firm Vincentric. Winner of the 2006–2007 Golden Icon Award (presented by Travolta Family Entertainment) for "Best Truck".

Ford revealed the next generation 2009 F-150 design at the North American International Auto Show in January, 2008. Production of the series began in October 2008 at Ford's Kansas City Assembly Plant.[16] The truck features a larger and more flexible interior, an updated three-bar grille, and additional choices of cab styles and trim levels. The chassis includes lighter-weight, low strength plastic for better fuel economy and safety and improved payload and towing capacity. Three engines were initially offered with the 2009 redesign: a revised 5.4 L 3-valve Triton V8 that is E85 capable with an output rating of 320 hp (240 kW) and 395 lb·ft (536 N·m) of torque, a 292 hp (218 kW) 4.6 L 3-valve V8, and a 248 hp (185 kW) 4.6 L 2-valve V8. The 3-valve 5.4 and 4.6 liter V8s are mated to Ford's new 6R80E 6-speed automatic transmission while the 4R75E 4-speed automatic transmission used previously is carried over for the 2-valve 4.6 L V8. The 4.2 L OHV V6 engine, which was previously available, has been dropped due to the closure of the Essex engine plant where it was produced.

ford f350

A top-of-the-line Platinum edition F-150 replaced the Lincoln Mark LT truck. However, this trim line is still sold as the Lincoln Mark LT in Mexico.

The 2009 Ford F150 features front-seat side impact airbags and Ford's Safety Canopy System for the first and second rows as Head protection in the event of a side impact. It will also feature Ford's exclusive ADVANCETRAC RSC (Roll Stability Control)--an Electronic Stability control and anti-rollover safety feature also available in other Ford vehicles, from the Fusion to the Expedition.

Beginning in 2009, manual transmissions will no longer be available in the F-150. Manual transmissions will continue to be available in the F-250/F-350 Super duty pickups. 2009 was the last year when Flareside Box was available, and the last year when the 17" wheels for the FX4 Off-Road were available. In 2010 The only box will be Styleside, and the base wheels for FX4 will be 18".

Ford revised all the Mustang's engines for 2011, while retaining almost the same body styling from the previous year. Transmission options for the V6 or GT include a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. Also, an Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) system removes the conventional hydraulic power steering pump. This system does not use belts as previously required, and allows for easier turning in low speed situations, while providing firmer control at higher speeds.

The new V6 includes a smaller 3.7 L (actually 3.72 L or 227 cu. in.) aluminum block engine weighing 40 lb (18 kg) less than the outgoing version. The engine has 24 valves (4 valves per cylinder) and Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing (TiVCT). These cams control intake and exhaust functions of the vehicle to maximize combustion and efficiency, producing 305 hp (227 kW) and 280 lb·ft (380 N·m) of torque. Fuel economy is rated by the EPA at 19 MPG city and 29 MPG / 31 MPG highway (with a manual or automatic transmission, respectively).

Ford announced on December 28, 2009 that the 2011 Mustang GT would feature a 5.0 engine (actually 4.95 L or 302.15 cu. in.) that produces 412 hp (307 kW) and 390 lb·ft (530 N·m) of torque on "premium fuel" (gasoline with an octane rating of 91). These numbers fall to 402 hp (300 kW) and 377 lb·ft (511 N·m) when using "regular fuel" (gasoline with an octane rating of 87).This Ford "Coyote" engine has 32 valves (4 valves per cylinder) with Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing (TiVCT). An optional Brembo brake upgrade is available, which features brakes previously used on the Shelby GT500. A set of 19-inch wheels and performance tires is also included. Also new for the 2011 Mustang GT is the 6 speed manual transmission.

The Shelby GT500's 5.4 L supercharged V8 block is now made out of aluminum making it 102 lb (46 kg) lighter than the iron units in previous years, and is now rated at 550 hp (410 kW) and 510 lb·ft (690 N·m) of torque.

As Lee Iacocca's assistant general manager and chief engineer, Donald N. Frey was the head engineer for the T-5 project—supervising the overall development of the car in a record 18 months - while Iacocca himself championed the project as Ford Division general manager. The T-5 prototype was a two-seat, mid-mounted engine roadster. This vehicle employed a Taunus (Ford Germany) V4 engine and was very similar in appearance to the much later Pontiac Fiero.

It was claimed that the decision to abandon the two-seat design was in part due to the low sales experienced with the 2-seat 1955 Thunderbird. To broaden market appeal it was later remodeled as a four-seat car (with full space for the front bucket seats, as originally planned, and a rear bench seat with significantly less space than was common at the time). A "Fastback 2+2" model traded the conventional trunk space for increased interior volume as well as giving exterior lines similar to those of the second series of the Corvette Sting Ray and European sports cars such as the Jaguar E-Type.The "Fastback 2+2" was not available as a 1964½ model, but was first manufactured on August 17, 1964.

Lee Iacocca, who had been one of the forces behind the original Mustang, became President of Ford Motor Company in 1970 and ordered a smaller, more fuel-efficient Mustang for 1974. Initially it was to be based on the Ford Maverick, but ultimately was based on the Ford Pinto subcompact.

The new model, called the "Mustang II", was introduced two months before the first 1973 oil crisis, and its reduced size allowed it to compete against imported sports coupés such as the Japanese Toyota Celica and the European Ford Capri[citation needed] (then Ford-built in Germany and Britain, sold in U.S. by Mercury as a captive import car). First-year sales were 385,993 cars, compared with the original Mustang's twelve-month sales record of 418,812.

Ford GT

The Ford GT is a mid-engine two-seater sports car. Ford Motor Company produced the Ford GT for the 2005 to 2006 model years. The designers drew inspiration from Ford's classic GT40 race cars of the 1960s.

Ford GT

The Ford GT began as a concept car designed in anticipation of the automaker's centennial year and as part of its drive to showcase and revive its "heritage" names such as Mustang and Thunderbird. At the 1995 Detroit Auto Show, the Ford GT90 concept was shown. At the 2002 auto show, Ford unveiled a new GT40 Concept car. Camilo Pardo, the head of Ford's "Living Legends" studio, is credited as the chief designer of the GT and worked under the guidance of J Mays.

Ford GT

The GT is similar in outward appearance to the original Ford GT40 cars, but bigger, wider, and 3 in (76 mm) taller than the original 40 in (100 cm); as a result, a potential name for the car was the GT43. Although the cars are visually related, structurally, there is no similarity between the modern GT and the 1960s GT40 that inspired it. Three production prototype cars were shown in 2003 as part of Ford's centenary, and delivery of the production Ford GT began in the fall of 2004.

A British company, Safir Engineering, who built continuation GT40s in the 1980s, owned the "GT40" trademark at that time. When they completed production, they sold the excess parts, tooling, design, and trademark to a small Ohio company called Safir GT40 Spares. This company licensed the use of the "GT40" trademark to Ford for the initial 2002 show car. When Ford decided to make the production vehicle, negotiations between the two firms failed. The production cars do not wear the GT40 badge.

Ford GT
The Ford GT features many new and unique technologies, including superplastic-formed aluminum body panels, roll-bonded floor panels, a friction stir welded center tunnel, a "ship-in-a-bottle" gas tank, a capless fuel filler system, one-piece door panels, and an aluminum engine cover with a one-piece carbon-fiber inner panel.

Brakes are four-piston aluminum Brembo calipers with cross-drilled and vented rotors at all four corners. When the rear canopy is opened, the rear suspension components and engine are visible.

The mid-mounted 5.4 L Modular V8 engine is all-aluminum with a Lysholm twin screw-type supercharger. It features a forged rotating assembly housed in an aluminum block designed specifically for the GT program. A dry sump oiling system is employed, allowing the engine to sit low in the car's frame. The DOHC 4-valve heads are a revision of the 2000 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R cylinder heads (with slightly increased wall casting thickness in the exhaust port). The camshafts have unique specifications, with more lift and duration than those found in the Shelby GT500 or 2003–2004 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra. Power output is 550 hp (410 kW; 558 PS) at 6500 rpm and generates 500 ft·lbf (678 N·m) of torque at 3750 rpm.[8] A Ricardo six-speed manual transmission is fitted featuring a helical limited-slip differential.

Electric Car To For Traffic Congestion

A good note of future is sung by the recent scientific inventions with the electric version of cars to face the onslaught of traffic congestion. The vehicles are to designed to manage the parking difficulties too, it is learnt. The ensuing Electric-Networked Vehicle (EN-V), a 2-seater, will relive much difficulty of the driver while maintaining environmental sectors by consuming less fuel energy from electric. Above all the car will attract customers with its affordable price range, it is mentioned. The car , from the portfolio of General Motors, is designed with a rotating ability at 360degree with manual mode of a driver. GM unveiled this car at the recent Las Vegas Convention Centre which is designed to run on battery power upto 25 miles on a single charge at a top speed of 25 mph. GM’s Director said that this electric car would fetch the most after sought vehicle status and growing business to the company. It is to be deemed as the next step to a bike as it will be affordable with less price giving easy move in the roads. Normally electric cars are preferred for short distance ride and crowded traffic roads.

This EN-V comes with the specialized technology from its OnStar subsidiary for contact with other cars, alerting the dangers and identification of parking lots. The car will help the driver in parking easily, avoid accidents and ease the traffic congestion, he added. The lone drawback with this vehicle is the collusion as a result of its body design. However, this could not be a big issue since the car will be parked inside the lanes and non-crowded areas. GM has not revealed the official launch of this EN-V for the commercial sale.

Futuristic Concept Car: Lamborghini Alcaldes

Created by designer Aron Mihai, the Lamborghini Alcaldes concept takes an interesting view on design and shape. The original inspiration came from paper folding technique, where one hand converts a two dimensional space into three dimensions, while the other hand ensures stiffness in the direction of the folds. Its geometric form is of course, the feature that stands out in the Alcaldes concept.

The geometric form of the concept is aerodynamic, and also gives it a futuristic look and torsion resistance for the body. The geometric shape also allows for better aerodynamics and optimal distribution of air impact pressure, thus reducing drag. Mihai sees the concept getting power from a V10 that would take the concept to a maximum speed of 313kmph. If ever produced, the designer sees the car with dimensions of length 4350 / height 1150/ 2000 width being placed between the Gallardo and the Murcielago

Insecta Concept Because Future Cars Belong To Insects

In fact, a lot of kids in Asia are having insects like big beetles as pets. Maybe when they grow up and see some cars like Insecta, they might feel intimate with them. It is important to look for new design elements to appeal to upcoming customer generations,” concluded Yeh.

Once again you have to realize that this is only a concept and could never go into production, but the designer is very confident of the success of his design because “cars are always considered not mere products but also have life in some level, even like our pets.

The Insecta Concept will be powered by four electric motors positioned inside a special system at each wheel as “this not only increases the agility of driving, but also optimizes the space for a comfortable cabin.

It’s easy to notice that the Insecta Concept has an aspect similar to one of a grasshopper as “the legs are connected to a central chassis as a thorax, while the canopy can be read as an insect’s head” and “the battery pack at the back symbolizes abdomen.

Taking inspirations from nature, the exterior expresses the characteristics of friendly insects, such as grasshoppers - agile, lightweight and green. Compare that to mammals, a common inspiration of modern car design. Insects are more suitable for cars of the future generation,” said Yeh.

As many car concept designers are inspired by nature, Yeh decided that it would be a great idea to come up with something that resembles an insect like a grasshopper. Check out the video at the end of the post to see Insecta in action!

Yung Yeh developed his concept while he was taking part on an academic exchange between the Cheng Kung University in Taiwan with the Kunsthochschule Berlin in Germany and his work was supervised by professor Hartmut Ginnow-Merkert.

Taiwanese design student Shao Yung Yeh is responsible for this beautiful car concept inspired by a meng, the Chinese word for grasshopper. The concept is called Insecta and it was specially conceived to become the electric personal mobility vehicle of the future.
